Team Includem are raising money for our Young Person’s Fund!
We are taking on the Great Scottish Run and it’s all to raise money for our Young Person’s Fund!
Twelve of our amazing staff are putting their best foot forward, training hard for the 10km race through Glasgow on the 29th September.
Despite the wet weather and a number of training injuries, Team Includem’s spirits are high and they are determined to raise as much money as possible for the Young Person’s Fund.
Includem’s Finance Manager, Simone Chalmers, is one of those taking part in the race.
Simone said, “I’ve been managing the Young Person’s Fund since it was set up in 2011 and I’m still affected by some of the applications that come through. Young people in need of a pair of shoes, winter coats, a bed…the level of poverty is truly shocking, and it seems to be getting worse.
“I wish we didn’t need to have a fund like this, but I’m so glad we do because it makes such a difference to these young people. We are able to provide them with essential basic items, like clothes and furniture, as well as experiences they otherwise wouldn’t have, like a trip to the cinema or a summer football camp.”
Sarah* is just one of the young people who has benefitted from the Young Person’s Fund. With Includem’s support, Sarah had learned to manage and overcome some of the challenges in her life, including depression and severe anxiety, family estrangement and almost becoming homeless. She made such fantastic progress she even achieved her goal of getting a college place to study social care.
The only thing holding her back now was the fact she did not have her own laptop, so was limited to working only during library opening hours or being forced to write essays on her mobile phone.
Through the Young Person’s Fund we were able to provide Sarah with her own laptop and all the stationary she needed to complete her studies.
Sarah said, “I was so proud of myself for getting to college because there was a time when I thought I’d get never get there. So, when I was struggling to complete my assignments because I didn’t have my own laptop it was really frustrating and stressful.
“I’m so grateful to Includem for providing me with a laptop through the Young Person’s Fund. It’s meant I’ve actually been able to concentrate on my work and do the best I can.”
