We believe that all children and young people should have a voice. Behind every child or young person we work with there is a story, which they are best placed to tell. They might not have decided the beginning, or the middle, but they can re-write the ending.

Jenny Gilruth MSP visits our Fife office

FIRST POSTED ON AUGUST 13 2019 AT 11:35

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth took time out of her busy schedule to find out more about the work of our team in Fife.

Jenny stopped off to meet our staff and was shown around the office by some of the 45 young people we support in the area.

Steven* and Lee* showed her how they use the interactive Wellbeing Web display to talk about how they are feeling before Jenny went on to add her handprint to the Alphabet Wall. She also joined young people in our #LivingYourBestLife exercise, writing down what she feels she needs to live her best life and adding it to the bright and hopeful rainbow display.

“In my previous role as a teacher I know how important early intervention is in keeping young people living with challenges from slipping further out of reach,” said Ms Gilruth.

“The intensive support that includem offers has been proven time and again to really make a difference to young people who are facing lots of different challenges. These might be problems at school, difficult relationships at home, or living with developmental conditions such as Autism. Without appropriate support these young people could end up going down a negative path. Includem is there to help them understand and navigate these challenges, as well as their own emotions and behaviour, and ultimately turn their lives around.”

Includem’s Fife Team Manager, Amanda Smith said: “We were delighted to welcome Jenny to see what we do with the young people we support and to meet some of them in person. It’s not until you meet these young people and hear about the challenges, they’re facing that you can fully appreciate the level of support that is required to help them become more confident and resilient, and really start turning their lives around.”
