Includem welcomes new Chair and board members this Trustee’s Week
Includem has appointed three new members to its Board of Trustees, including a new Chair, as part of Trustees Week.
We’re pleased to welcome Joseph Hughes as the new Chair of the Board, with Kevin O’Hare and Dave Brown also joining as Trustees.
Joseph has been running his Glasgow-based solicitors firm for the last 34 years and has been providing confidential, 24-hour legal advice to young people through the Young Scot LawLine. He was appointed as a Legal Member of several tribunals including the Mental Health Tribunal and Additional Support Needs Tribunal.
Joseph has previously held roles on the boards of Turning Point and Action for Children and has worked with the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration. As well as becoming Chair of Includem, Hughes will soon be taking up post as Sheriff of Greenock.
Joseph said of his appointment, “I first experienced Includem as a defence solicitor, where I saw first-hand the dedication of Includem workers who steadfastly supported some of my own clients who were very challenging. Their support was amazing. They quite simply never gave up on any client.
“I know how important such focussed support is in the lives of young people and their families. It is an enormous privilege to be appointed as the next Chair of Includem, especially as we enter our 20th year in 2020.”
Includem Chief Executive Martin Dorchester said, “I’m thrilled to announce Joseph will be taking on the role as Chair of our Board of Trustees. Joseph brings energy, enthusiasm and a wealth of experience from the world of justice and specifically youth justice that will prove invaluable to Includem as we embark on our next five-year strategy.”
Hughes will be taking over from Jim Gibson who served as Chair for the last decade.
Martin Dorchester added, “I want to thank Jim for his years of dedication and hard work as Chair of our Board. He has provided a steady hand and helped guide the organisation during some of the most challenging times in the sector. We wish him well as he takes on his new role as Chair of the Board at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.”
Includem has also welcomed Kevin O’Hare and Dave Brown as Includem Trustees.
Kevin brings extensive media and communications experience to the Board, having previously acted as Chief Sub-editor at The Herald, whilst Dave runs his own business specialising in providing consultancy support in the areas of community investment, social value and community consultation.
Includem has made the announcement during Trustees Week, an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do across the UK.
“Trustees play a vital role in the third sector, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about how charities work. I have no doubt that our three new Trustees will be valuable addition to the organisation.”
