The Specialist Foster Care Service
The specialist foster care service was developed to meet the longer term care and support needs of a particularly vulnerable group of children and young people aged between 11- 18 year, who for what ever reason cannot live with their own families.
It is based on a team approach with the carers being employed by the organisation, and each young person having an additional support package from staff from the crisis or community teams. Initially recruitment will be from within Includem with carers being fully assessed and prepared for the task. Carers will be trained to at least SVQ level 3 and have access to ongoing training.
When a referral is received social workers are asked to complete a thorough risk assessment before proceeding to a matching meeting with a foster family. Each young person will be supported throughout the placement to achieve their goals through a support plan negotiated with all members of their care team.
It is acknowledged that caring for a young person can be very demanding and all carers have access to a dedicated 24 hour management line and respite and annual leave arrangements are supported in order to maintain the well being of the carers.
