The Specialist Foster Care Service

The Specialist Foster Care Service was developed to meet the longer term care and support needs of a particularly vulnerable group of children and young people aged between 11- 18 years, who for whatever reason cannot live with their own families.  The service provides an innovative and flexible placement option for some of the most excluded and troubled young people.

Includem is committed to providing good quality family placements to children and young people in a team based approach. Carers are employed on a full time basis by the organisation, and each young person has an additional support package from Includem staff. We are recruiting carers with previous child care experience. Carers will be trained to at least SVQ level 3 and have access to ongoing training.

When a referral is received and there is a suitable vacancy the social worker will be invited to attend a linking meeting with a foster family. Social workers are asked to complete a thorough risk assessment prior to placement. Each young person will be supported throughout the placement to achieve their goals through a support plan negotiated and regularly reviewed by members of their care team.

All placements are made and monitored in accordance with The Fostering of Children (Scotland) Regulations 1996. Which means all carers are properly approved, reviewed and have signed a foster carer agreement. All placements are made using a foster placement agreement.

It is acknowledged that caring for a young person can be very demanding and all carers have access to a dedicated 24 hour management line and respite.  Annual leave arrangements are supported in order to maintain the well being of the carers.
